Year 1 has a karate star! Chrissie attends our Monday after school club with Sensei (Teacher) Reid and she also attends his classes in Georgetown on a Saturday. She is our first pupil to attend on a Saturday too - and our first to gain a grading. Well done!

Virtual Hawaii
Our class went on a virutal trip to Hawaii with Mr Mark Ray, our ICT mentor. We are learning about celebrations and we know that Hawaii celebrates in very special ways. Mr Ray set up our new Mimio board and we were able to take our trip. We looked at the kinds of things they do and we drew ourselves into some of the pictures. We enjoyed our trip to Hawaii!

Homework
Watch out for homework based on our new phonics programme called Jolly Phonics. Your child will have a sound book so that he/she can practice the sounds that have been taught. This is a fast track approach to learning the letter sounds and we would appreciate if you use the sound with your child rather than the name of the letter. Learning to read is a mixture of 'sight' words that children just learn to recognise and words that they can put together by blending sounds e.g. 'we' is a sight word - c-a-t can be sounded out.
Your child will also be taking books home for you to read with them, initially. Please take time to sit with your child and share their book. Discuss the pictures; ask them questions about the story; ask them to predict what the story might be about or how it might end...We know that time spent now helping your child to learn to read will have a great impact on their love of reading and their ability to learn from books.
Many thanks for your support!
